Genie 4: research preview · Public API date: Not announced
World model AI,
Genie 4 and playable worlds.
Last updated:
World models are AI systems that generate a world you can step into and play, not just a video you watch. Google DeepMind announced Genie 4 on October 27, 2026, and it is still invite-only. Here you can see what is open today, what is coming, and where to try a playable world right now.

Official world-model demonstrations
Both videos are from Google DeepMind’s official channel. They show what Genie 4 and Genie 3 can do in Google’s own demos; this site does not generate worlds yet. DeepMind notes its demo sequences are illustrative and shortened.
What is a playable world?
A playable world is a scene generated by AI that responds to you as you move and act in it. You describe a place in text, or start from an image, and an AI world generator builds it. When you walk forward, turn the camera or ask for a change, the model generates what comes next in real time. Google describes Project Genie this way: it generates the path ahead based on the actions you take. That is the key difference from AI video tools, where you pick a prompt and watch a finished clip. Today’s playable worlds are short and imperfect. Project Genie launched with a 60-second limit per generation, and DeepMind says Genie 4 is built for a few minutes of continuous interaction. Details can drift, and physics is not always realistic. Still, it is the first time anyone can type a sentence and walk around inside the result.
